Weekly Tarot Card – Five of Pentacles
What a dismal scene. A man and a woman are walking in a snowstorm. His legs are bandaged and he uses crutches. She is barefoot in the snow wrapped in a cloak. Her gaze is downcast, he looks up to the heavens as if to say, “Why me?” Each despairs of their condition which is abject poverty. So engrossed in their unhappy and hopeless situation are they that neither notices the bright lights coming from the pentacles (gold coins) depicted in the stained glass windows in the church to their left. It is a cautionary tale, one that messages the mistake of too much attention to the problem rather than solution. If we keep our heads buried in the circumstances of our despair we will miss the signs of hope and help. Look to the light…always.
Weekly Tarot Card – The Moon
In the picture the man in the moon is reflected and visible by the light of the sun. In fact both sources of light for the planet earth seem inextricably linked. We have a wolf and dog barking at the moon and a crayfish crawling out of the waters seemingly pulled by the light of the moon. What messages does the moon have for us? What are we being called to look into? The night is dark and the path leads to the mountains in the distance. Perhaps we are to look into our shadow side and address the unconscious with its uncomfortable information. The promise is to illuminate what is holding us back. So we can move forward.
Weekly Tarot Card – Knight of Pentacles
A sturdy night sits atop a black work horse holding a golden coin. He’s accoutered in red accessories (gloves, robe saddle cloth which match his horse’s bridle and reins. A jaunty green feather springs out of his helmet matching the verdant landscape on which the pair stands. In the distance is furrowed land ready for seeding and mountains and trees further in the background. The sky is illumined yellow as in a bright sun shines. Pentacles are opportunities of an earthy kind–business, building, growing. This fellow may be slow and plodding but he is persistent and extremely loyal. There’s always something to be said about slow and steady winning the race and it’s good to have workers in your corner. Don’t pass him by should he offer you a golden coin. Take a long view and appreciate persistence over flashes of brilliance which can burn out quickly.
Weekly Tarot Card – 5 of Swords Reversed
The time for war is over. In case you didn’t get it before it’s pretty clear now that no one truly wins in a battle. There are always consequences for both sides–the victor and the defeated. The defeated have lain down their swords and turn away. The victor looks over to them, holding two swords upright in one hand and one sword for support as a kind of staff in the other. The sky is dark and foreboding with sharp clouds zig-zagging in an uneasy motion. In its upright position this card points to the hollow nature of victories when won by the harsh violence of actual swords or words (swords being the suit of thoughts and communication). We feel that the reversal here enhances the message, as in a strong directive to turn away from battles and come around towards forgiveness and peaceful conflict resolution.
